The country of Canada is rife with mineral riches, providing not only sources of energy and income to the country, but also jobs for its people. Mining these riches is no easy task. Most often, mineral ores and sources are often located in derelict locations such as rocky mountains and oil fields that are far away from civilization. Not only miners and skilled workers can find opportunities in Canada's mines, but also people who have backgrounds in hospitality management can work as camp cooks in mining sites.
The duties of a camp cook are somewhat the same with the duties of other people in common hospitality jobs. The location of the mining camp, however, plays a big part on how a camp cook should go about his or her job.
Mining camps are non-stationary.
People working as camp cooks in mining and petroleum sites experience the same living conditions as the other workers. Instead of lugging heavy load and equipment, camp cooks and attendants take care of food supplies and kitchen equipment. Similart to how rigs and mines are transferred from one location to the other, camp cooks should also be prepared to move along with the crew, making sure that kitchen supplies and equipment are well accounted for.
Camp cooks don't just cook.
Aside from preparing food for employees, camp cooks should be able to work within a given budget to provide enough food to a crew of 30 or more miners. Camp cooks must have at least working knowledge of nutrition facts to ensure that miners are not only well fed but also nourished. Camp cooks also supervise other kitchen staff during food preparation and cleaning up.
